Yeah, I am not sure I would have ever considered this if I didnt talk to you at the meet. I definitely believe that Desktops will eventually be non-existent. _________________

they run so hot, that is my main issue with mobile gaming platforms.
You almost need one of those fan pads/cooling pads for under the laptop.
I remember Frosty's Alienware was a beast at the time, but it got very warm. _________________ E .· ` ' / ·. F

I don't buy this. I just got a new laptop as well and I very much love it, but it will never take the place of my desktop. I've also owned very high-end laptops and still felt the same way.
Congrats on the laptops. _________________ Excellent. The more rapidly we can marginalize and alienate the middle class the sooner we can start the shooting. |

The i series processors are suppose to run much cooler. This laptop runs MUCH cooler than my Pentium 2 laptop that is 10 years old. _________________

I think it will. The knock on laptops is that they could never be as powerful as a desktop. Thats just not the case anymore, and technology is only getting better. There is nothing stopping someone from hooking up their laptop to a monitor/keyboard/mouse either. _________________

The biggest problem with laptop heat is that chassis designers refuse to make a removable panel over the heatsink. The massive overheating that starts after you've had them for a while is usually because they get clogged, and you have to manually clear the lint blockage. This notebook I'm on runs cold after a dust/lint clearing, but a few months later, it overheats to the point that it shuts off. _________________ I may be a pain in the ass now, but once you loosen up I'm not so bad. |

I don't think horsepower was realy the issue, imo it's the expandibility issue. Whatever you buy today is what you're stuck with until you buy a brand new rig. With desktops upgrading individual components is simple, you dont have the same flexibility with a laptop |

Thats true, but I dont ever upgrade. I always buy new, but thats just me. And to be honest, I think the technology will get to the point where you can swap video cards and stuff in laptops. _________________

I like having both, but I am getting increasingly sick of upgrading PC's. My current laptop isn't even top of the line and I can play games on it. I don't give a shit about graphics anymore, just don't want to fuss with stuff.
Still love my PC though...sort of. _________________ Excellent. The more rapidly we can marginalize and alienate the middle class the sooner we can start the shooting. |
